The legal drinking age in Spain is 18.

Minors under the age of 18 are prohibited by law from purchasing or consuming alcohol in public places.

The law is in place to protect young people from the harmful effects of alcohol. These include potential long-term cognitive damage, social and academic problems and an increased risk of developing alcohol dependence later in life.

While the law allows alcohol consumption for those over 18, young adults are strongly advised to avoid or delay drinking to minimise health risks.

The Spanish Ministry of Health (Ministerio de Sanidad) is the definitive source for information on the legal drinking age in Spain and the associated guidelines for young people.
