Marbella is a luxury, romantic place in Spain that's also known for its amazing parties! Tanya and I just jump at any chance we get to go there.

There's always something exciting to do! It's such a shame that we only get to visit Marbella once a month or so, or even less often. Even though we live just 35-40 minutes away (in Benalmádena), it would be so lovely to be able to go more often!

Having put together our handy guides to the best 5 star hotelsBnB'srestaurants and all the information you need to know about Marbella before you arrive, we thought it might be useful to share the best things you can do to make the most of your time here, so that your trip is truly colourful!

And now, without further ado, let's dive into the best places and attractions you can enjoy!

I. Unique Things To Do In Marbella

To experience Marbella like a local, we have two unique suggestions for you—activities you can only do in this beautiful city!

1. Discover The Old Town of Marbella

Welcome to Marbella, Old Town Image

Overview

Marbella's old town, known as "Casco Antiguo", is a beautiful blend of history and charm. Its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and flower-decked balconies create an authentic Andalusian experience

The heart of the old town is the Orange Square (Plaza de los Naranjos), which dates back to 1485 and is surrounded by important historic buildings such as the Town Hall, the old Governor's House and the Chapel of Santiago

The area offers a unique glimpse into Marbella's past, with the ruins of the Moorish castle still partially visible.

For a touch of artistic flair,
Salvador Dalí sculptures can be found along the Avenida del Mar, displaying some of the surrealist master's most famous bronze works. This blend of history and modern art makes the old town a must-see.

Location

The old town of Marbella falls under the postal code 29601. It is very close to the sea, about 10 minutes walk (600-700m) from the nearest beach - Playa de Venus, however, if you want to combine a visit to the old town with some shopping or sightseeing at Puerto Banús, I recommend you use a car or public transport as the distance is about 7.6Km (4.7 Miles). In rush hour it could take as long as 20 minutes. Walking slowly will take about 2 hours.

Price

While you can do this walk for free, we think you'll enjoy it so much you'll want to treat yourself to a little something along the way. So, we recommend budgeting 100-150 euros for two people. That way, you can enjoy a nice meal, coffee, ice cream or beer, buy some souvenirs and/or visit the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving.

Time to Spend

If you want to have a relaxing and interesting walk, I think 3-4 hours would be enough to see the most beautiful parts, visit the Museum of Contemporary Spanish Engraving (Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo), see the Muralla Urbana de Marbella (ruins of the brick walls & crenellated fortifications built in the city during the Moorish period) and the Castillo de Marbella (Marbella Castle). You can even plan a dinner or lunch for an hour.

The beautiful Marbella Town Hall is also located here. It's also worth visiting the beautiful Catholic church - Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Not to be missed is the famous Plaza de los Naranjos or Orange Trees Square.

There are 2 pools, outdoor and indoor, entertainment areas, lots of green space,
restaurants, bars and even a sauna!

The campsite shop sells basic groceries, fruit, vegetables and sweets.

Bear in mind that it's quite busy in the summer and a couple of times we couldn't find a free bungalow when we tried to book 2 weeks in advance.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and you can find really good options if you are looking for a more luxurious camping experience by reserving one of the new houses or looking at the caravan and tent pitches.

This popular trail is used by tourists and locals alike, so you're sure to meet other adventurers along the way. Ideal for families, it's an easy walk with just 40 metres of positive gradient and takes about 30 minutes to complete

Although it's partly tarmac, you'll still feel immersed in nature. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.

🐕Dog friendly (on a lead)

🌳Forest trail with views of waterfalls

You'll enter the Pinar de Nagüles forest and follow the path along the Camoján waterfall, which adds a refreshing touch to the scenery.

I recommend that you allow at least 2 hours for the whole circuit. This will allow you to keep a good pace and enjoy the walk.

Although the trees provide some shade, it's still wise to avoid the midday heat in summer. If you're hoping to see the Camoján waterfall in full flow, plan your visit during the rainy months.
